May 2010 Career Workshop Lagos Report
The vision 2020 youth empowerment and restoration initiative held her 10th career counseling, industry awareness event on May 20, 2010 at the MUSON Centre Lagos.
Vision 2020 had sponsorship with two Platinum Sponsors: Addax Petroleum and Subsea 7, two Gold sponsors: MTN and TOTAL and one Silver Sponsor:
Cooper Cameron.
Chevron, ExxonMobil, Shell and Microsoft also partnered with us in value adding activities such as our Youth Summer Camp in Dowen College in the summer and Competitions that encourage excellence amongst Youths We also had MTN launch the “Yello” School Rucksack, which is a symbol of excellence in mathematics, science and technology as we hope that all our Senior Secondary School Students would work very hard in their mathematics and science subjects.
We gave awards to people and a company that have been very contributive to the vision 2020 initiative so far, the awardees are Addax Petroleum (for five years of partnership), Mr. Emeka Anyanwu of Chevron for exceptional presentation of Oil and Gas 101, Ms. Ore Somolu of Women in Science and Technology and Ms. Bimbo Oluwabamise of Christ Embassy (both Ex Lonadek
Staff) who started this journey with us, Mrs. Omolara Adeniji of Lonadek and Mr. Oluseyi Babatunde of Lonadek who have voluntarily produced 8 versions of our Vision 2020 newsletters for youths.

Vision 2020 had a science project exhibition as a means of awarding invention and creativity and the out of thirty different science projects from schools three schools received the award – Abibat Mogaji took the 3rd position (rechargeable fan), Gbagada Senior Secondary School took the 2nd position (Electric Cooker) and Vivian Fowler Memorial College took the first position (Electricity from coconut waste water) The 10th career counseling, industry awareness and youth empowerment event had a total number of registered participants of 1,708 persons in attendance. In breakdown we had 73 dignitaries, 139 teachers, 16 drivers, 25 press persons, secondary school students 1,409, 6 university students, 4 individuals, and 36 church youth members.
The event started with the arrival and registration of students and guest by 8am alongside there was also photo-taking of schools that arrived early. After registrations they are being ushered to the auditorium were they watched the SPDC past projects episode 1-8.
There was a welcome pleasantry by the programme moderator and the opening prayer that formally opened the event by Mrs Joy Owo at 10:30am. This was preceded by the National anthem, welcome of Special Guest to the high table. Members at the high table are as follows; Engr Smart Fadayomi, Dr. Mrs Ibilola Amao, Ms Anita Omoile, Engr. Mrs Olatokunbo Somolu, Engr. Derek Izedonmeh, Permanent Secretary to the Lagos State Government.
